Requirements · Rationale · Traceability · Evidence

Requirements that outlive your development tools.

Vainio RM is a requirements management platform for engineering organizations that need long-term traceability, controlled change and evidence without tying their requirements to today's development platform.

Development tools change. Requirements endure.

The problem

Development is moving forward. Requirements still need a home.

Organizations using Azure DevOps often rely on more than repositories and pipelines. Requirements, formal change control, reviews, traceability and historical records may be deeply embedded in existing processes.

Moving development work to GitHub does not make those needs disappear. Vainio RM is being built for that gap: development platforms remain where teams plan, code, review and deliver software; Vainio preserves the durable engineering record around that work.

A different foundation

Why → What → How → Proof

Vainio is designed around the questions that make an engineering record understandable — not just today, but years later.

01

Why?

Preserve the decisions, incidents, regulations, assumptions and source material that explain why a requirement exists.

02

What?

Capture structured requirements with history, relationships, reviews and controlled change.

03

How?

Connect requirements to development artifacts, reviews, source-control revisions and releases.

04

Proof?

Connect verification, tests, approvals and evidence back to the engineering intent.

Temporal View

See your engineering record as it was.

Requirements systems should do more than retain a revision log. Vainio is being designed with time as a first-class dimension.

Choose a baseline, release or point in time and reconstruct the engineering record as it existed then — including wording, relationships, approvals, rationale and evidence.

Not just what you know today. What you knew then.

Progressive Governance

Start simple.
Add rigor without starting over.

Requirements management should not begin with a seventy-field form.

Begin with lightweight requirements. Add rationale, verification and structured relationships as the team matures. Introduce formal reviews, approvals, baselines and change control when regulation, risk or organizational maturity requires them.

Clear boundaries

What Vainio deliberately leaves to other tools.

Not another development platform. It does not try to replace GitHub, Azure DevOps, GitLab or your SCM system.
Not generic project management.Daily delivery work belongs where development teams already work best.
Not governance by default.Teams should not be forced into maximum process from day one.
Not AI as authority.AI may suggest and assist; engineering decisions remain attributable and reviewable.
Not customer lock-in.Your data should remain exportable, understandable and under your control.
Sovereignty by design

Your requirements should not belong to your development platform (or your RM vendor).

Vainio RM is being designed around customer control, portability and deployment choice.

EU SaaS

Private or self-hosted

Run Vainio RM in infrastructure you control, using familiar Microsoft technologies and your own SQL Server.

No data held hostage

Complete self-service export is a product principle, not a billed professional-services project.

We are speaking with engineering organizations that use formal requirements management, particularly teams working with Azure DevOps, CMMI-style processes and GitHub adoption.

Early participants may also be invited to become Vainio Design Partners and help shape the first production release.
